Dressing Your Body Type: Pear

PEAR
(Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, Beyonce)

You have narrow shoulders.
Your bust and waistline are small and petite.
You have more voluptuous hips, bottom and thighs.
Goals: To find apparel to balance your upper portion with your bottom; visually slim your bottom half and play up your top.

Jackets and Blazers: When wearing a jacket, choose one that ends past your hips, not at them. A longer jacket, such as a boyfriend blazer, creates a long, lean line and covers the hip area.

Tops: Trendy slim-fitted empires, scoop-necks or boat necks, button up blouses, detailed tops balance the pear figure. As a pear, you want to direct attention to your tops. Fun colors or details at the neck all serve the purpose of drawing the eye away from the hip area. Experiment with different necklines. A deeper, more plunging neckline elongates your upper body and draws all the attention upward. Try wearing a long necklace to fill in the neckline, which also adds to the lengthening of your upper body.

Dresses: For the most flattering look, you should choose dresses that play up your slender waist and sexy shoulders while minimizing the hip and thigh area. The easiest way to balance a bottom-heavy figure is to choose a dress that skims over the lower half of the body. Full or A-line skirts will skim your curves beautifully without adding bulk to your shape. Try dresses that have some kind of embellishment up top whether it be ruffles, pattern or luxurious texture, it will all help to add a little more volume to your bust.

Skirts: A-line skirts with flared hems narrow the hips of the pear shape. These skirts nip in at waist and make your waist look smaller. Avoid a lot of fussy detail at the waist-line: keep it clean and simple. Invest in a range of belts to help show off your small waist.

Pants: Wear pants or jeans that have a slight flare on the bottom. A flared leg draws the eye away from your hips and creates a more flattering line for your whole body. Conversely, stay away from capri or tapered pants. They drive the eye right to the hips.
