Falguni and Shane Peacock play by their own rules. Known for their intricate detailing, edgy garments entwined with feathers and sequins and Indian-inspired structured headpieces, Falguni and Shane Peacock’s current collect continues to feature opulence, drama and their philosophy, “Life is too short to blend in.”

In this collection, they paid attention to detailing while also incorporating flattering silhouettes with appropriately placed cutouts and bold, signature touches: feathers. Metal breast plates, collars and long black polyurethane coated spandex gloves took the collection to a new level. They took last season’s biggest trend of peplum and expanded it by creating the same effect with metal skirtings. A-line and pencil cut dresses in peacock-inspired prints (how fitting) were made darkly sensual with sheer cutouts and heavy black trim. Other looks in the collection were extremely gothic and dark. Like the black embellished sweetheart dress paired under a tough trench with oily feather sleeves and exaggerated shoulders.

A show stopping look was a multi-toned beaded long sleeve gown with exaggerated shoulders, which gave off the illusion of rippling water. But, if any look best describes the entire collection it would be the floor-length Emerald feather skirt with dramatic front slit juxtaposed against a sheer tank embellished with the words “Wild Child” across the chest.

Falguni and Shane Peacock’s intention, if not their goal, is to make bold statements, which was apparent through the decision to end the show with red carpet-worthy beaded gowns turned futuristic with metal ribcage structures and collars. Falguni and Shane Peacock definitely lived up to their mantra; no one is blending in wearing this collection. Seen in the front row was R&B singer, Eve, Victoria’s Secret model Jasmine Tookes and Dawn Joyce of House of Lies

Recently, we put together a presentation on “Dressing For Your Body Type” and I don’t think we’ve ever worked on such an emotional project. I found myself researching this topic and questioning which shape I fit into? Am I an hourglass? An apple? Curvy? Or like many women, do I fit into a hybrid category completely unique? I’m still unsure which shape I would consider myself but I have always had an internal struggle with my size (like most women). Although it’s easy to get caught up in the high-fashion, editorial world of styling, it’s nice to regress back and take a very simple approach to dressing appropriately and realistically. Here is what we came up with for different shapes and sizes. It’s all about feeling comfortable (and confident) and playing up your best bits and de-emphasizing your “problem” areas. At the end of the day, however, getting dressed in the morning should be fun, not challenging and dejected. Embrace your unique shape, your quirky flaws and don’t feel the need to hide under your clothes because you’re not a size “0″ or you don’t have the curves to fill out a garment. Just wear what you feel happiest in and what makes you look the best. And that’s the best advice I could ever receive and pass on to anyone.- JD

PENCIL LEAN (RECTANGLE)
(Cameron Diaz, Kate Hudson, Gwyneth Paltrow)

Rectangle body shapes are straight up and down without a very defined waist
You have a well-proportioned body: lean limbs, straight waist and small chest
Best assets: arms and legs. You’re lucky you don’t have to minimize any body features!
Goals: To show off your slender arms and legs, define your waist and create curves!

Jackets and Blazers: Avoid boxy styles. Jackets are best when they hit high hip bone and nip in at the waist for shape. Tailored trenches and belted jackets will give shape and define your waist and hips. You’ll look best in classic single-breasted but you have one of the rare body types to rock a double breasted jacket.

Tops: Wear scoop neck and sweetheart tops to create curves. Also tops with collars, ruffles and details will flatter (an enhance) your chest. Choose high necklines for petite frames to elongate your body.

Dresses: Your body looks amazing in shift dress because of your proportions and slender frame. You will look equally great in bias cut dresses just below the knee. Also, dresses with ruching or that cinch on the sides to create curves will work.

Skirts: If you’re looking to give the illusion of more curves, choose skirts which flare at the bottom to give you a girl shape. Styles with cinched waists and volume are perfect to make your hips look a little fuller. A-line skirts and tulip skirts are also curve-creating options. Pencil skirts will look great on you as well.

Pants: The best way to create curves on a straight bottom is by wearing something tight but not constricting. Flat front, semi low rise, skinny jeans, etc all look great on you.

Tips & Tricks
- Layer to add more dimension.
- Wear a good bra that will make the most of what you have ( try Victoria’s Secret or Nordstrom)
- Don’t wear a v-neck alone. Tight v-necks over-elongate the body. Stick with blouses and shirts with more detailing. Leave plain t-shirts, camisoles and solid tanks as a second layer.
- Stray from extremely full or baggy pants.
- Avoid straight, boxy mini skirts.

PEAR
(Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna, Beyonce)

You have narrow shoulders.
Your bust and waistline are small and petite.
You have more voluptuous hips, bottom and thighs.
Goals: To find apparel to balance your upper portion with your bottom; visually slim your bottom half and play up your top.

Jackets and Blazers: When wearing a jacket, choose one that ends past your hips, not at them. A longer jacket, such as a boyfriend blazer, creates a long, lean line and covers the hip area.

Tops: Trendy slim-fitted empires, scoop-necks or boat necks, button up blouses, detailed tops balance the pear figure. As a pear, you want to direct attention to your tops. Fun colors or details at the neck all serve the purpose of drawing the eye away from the hip area. Experiment with different necklines. A deeper, more plunging neckline elongates your upper body and draws all the attention upward. Try wearing a long necklace to fill in the neckline, which also adds to the lengthening of your upper body.

Dresses: For the most flattering look, you should choose dresses that play up your slender waist and sexy shoulders while minimizing the hip and thigh area. The easiest way to balance a bottom-heavy figure is to choose a dress that skims over the lower half of the body. Full or A-line skirts will skim your curves beautifully without adding bulk to your shape. Try dresses that have some kind of embellishment up top whether it be ruffles, pattern or luxurious texture, it will all help to add a little more volume to your bust.

Skirts: A-line skirts with flared hems narrow the hips of the pear shape. These skirts nip in at waist and make your waist look smaller. Avoid a lot of fussy detail at the waist-line: keep it clean and simple. Invest in a range of belts to help show off your small waist.

Pants: Wear pants or jeans that have a slight flare on the bottom. A flared leg draws the eye away from your hips and creates a more flattering line for your whole body. Conversely, stay away from capri or tapered pants. They drive the eye right to the hips.

Tips & Tricks
- Wear lighter colors on top and dark colors below the waist.
- Highlight your upper half by wearing tops with bold colors or texture.
- Accentuate your upper half by accessorizing with jewelry, scarves and other eye-catchers.
- Don’t wear pleated skirts; they make your bottom look bigger.
- Don’t wear pants with pockets, especially side pockets or large pockets.

HOURGLASS
(Sofia Vergara, Scarlett Johansson, Kate Winslet)

Your bust and hips are about the same size accompanied by a small waist.
Goals: Don’t hide and cover up curves in lose fitting clothes (it makes you look bigger). Embrace those curves and show off your most envied assets; your proportions and tiny waist!

Jackets and Blazers: Look for a well-designed jacket even with a belt and avoid the bulky ones. A badly chosen jacket may make an hourglass figure look 2-3 times larger. Single breasted jackets are best for your shape. Simplicity is they key when looking for YOUR perfect jacket. If you are a more petite hourglass, try and stick to shorter jackets that end at your hips.

Tops: V-neck shirts show a glimpse of the neckline but don’t plunge too deep. Boat necks look best on this shape. If the neckline is too high up, it may create a disharmony in the appearance. Meaning, turtlenecks are usually a “no” unless worn under a small jacket. Also, avoid blouses and tops without a fitting waistline. Wrap tops and tops with belts are also good for the hour glass woman because the belt or tie will fall on your slender waistline.

Dresses: For the best silhouette, choose a dress that is either following the body contours (but not too tight) or one that fits perfectly on the top and ends in a slightly A-lined bottom. Dresses and one piece jumpsuits are a good choice for the hour glass woman (just make sure they fit your bust as well as your hips and your behind!)

Skirts: Pencil skirts are the ones to go for; they will cling to your figure coming right in at your waist to show off your sexy curves. However it’s important to know what length skirt is right for you (Wearing skirts ending at the thickest part of your legs whether it be the widest part of your thighs or calves, will make you appear a lot shorter and wider than you actually are.) A-lines are also great for your shape as long as they are fitted around the waist and don’t flare out from the waist.

Pants: Since the hourglasses’ hips are round, pants and jeans are most comfortable when they are high or mid-waist. To balance out your hips, choose jeans and pants that have a slightly flared, wide leg or boot cut. Tailored jeans can make your legs appear longer and lift your bottom especially if worn with heels.

Tips & Tricks
- A belt worn on the waist will make your waistline appealing and enhance the curves. A narrow belt could “decrease the size,” while wide belts may seem to add on a few pounds on the area, so it’s best to avoid lower fitting belts on hips

APPLE (PLUS SIZE)
(Adele, Jennifer Coolidge, America Ferrera)

You carry weight around your mid-section and chest

Your rib cage and back appear somewhat wide

Your waistline is undefined or has little waist definition

Your hips may be narrow

Goals: Your abdominal and torso are your biggest body issues, so you need to focus on de-emphasizing this area while also accentuating your best assets. In many cases, these are your chest and legs.

Jackets and Blazers: Hip-length will skim past your midsection and balance out your frame. Buttons should be below the bust to trim your waist. Also, make sure your jackets are single-breasted. Too much details such as double breasts accentuate your midsection.

Tops: Choose long tops that float away from your waist like hip-length tops and tunic shirts. They help balance you out.

Dresses: You want to wear dresses that skim over your midsection without clinging. Choose Empire or bias cuts. Wrap styles tailor your midriff by visually lifting your bust and creating a waistline. A V-neckline will slim your upper body and draw the eye up and down. A hemline that flares outwards to balance out your top heavy body, such as an A-line is best.

Skirts: Try skirts that hit right above the knee, at knee or calf. Short skirts will only highlight your midsection and make you look blocky. The best style to choose from are: bias cut, trumpet, structures pencil and A-line.

Pants: Skinny and tapered style pants are tricky because they’ll accentuate your legs and make you look bigger on top. opt for a slight flare to add balance. Another alternative to skinny jeans is straight or boot cut pants worn with a pair of eye-catching shoes. Normal to high rise with a flat front will help keep your belly and midriff in place and avoid adding bulk. Avoid pleats or ruching on the front of your pants.

Tips & Tricks
- Opt for a dark, monochromatic look to appear longer and leaner.
- Clothes that skim past over your midsection but nip right below your bust such as Empire cut tops and tunic shirts will lift your chest and make your waist look trimmer.
-Shape wear especially waist cinchers will trim the waist area instantaneously.
-Structured garments are your best bet because they hold in and camouflage the extra weight.
-Avoid waistline details such as beading, bows and skinny belts (the thin look make your wide waist look bigger in comparison). Instead, invest in medium stretch wide belts; they pull in the weight nicely without bulking.
